PERSONIFICATION

 

Personification is a figure of speech the gives human traits of emotions or actions to nonhuman things like objects, animals or ideas.  Personification is not to be taken literally but is to be interpreted by the Holy Spirit to people who have the Holy Spirit. 

Examples are as follows:

Psalm 85:10 “Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and mercy kiss each other.”

Psalm 98:8 “The rivers clap their hands and the mountains sing together for joy.”

It should be obvious to you that there is symbolism in these Psalms that gives human traits to inanimate objects or ideas to convey to the converted reader a spiritual message.  I want to focus on Proverbs 8:1-36 that personifies understanding and wisdom and assigns to these ideals human traits.

Proverbs 8:1 “Does not wisdom call out and understanding raise her voice ?”

Both spiritual wisdom and understanding come from GODS spirit in a person.  Verses 2 & 3 shows that wisdom and understanding are everywhere and verses 4 & 5 their cry is to the sons of men who are simple and must to learn to be wise, these fools to gain understanding.  Verses 6-9 tell us that the voice of wisdom and understanding is true, noble, right, with no wickedness, or crooked and perverse words.

  All of the words of wisdom and understanding are upright to those who GOD reveals them to. The following verses show the infinite value of the words, how physical treasures are nothing by comparison. With wisdom and understanding comes  prudence and discretion, counsel and sound judgement.  Wisdom and understanding is the way to honor and righteousness and is the true treasure and wealth to those who love wisdom and understanding. GOD is wisdom and understanding in eternity before HE created anything. People that keep the way of wisdom and understanding are blessed. The person that finds wisdom and understanding from GOD obtains favor from GOD. Those who fail to find wisdom and understanding harm themselves and all who hate wisdom and understanding love death.”

There are unconverted people who think that Proverbs 8 is describing Jesus Christ but it’s describing the wisdom and understanding that comes to the person who had GODS Holy Spirit.  It is the wisdom from above that enables and empowers a true Christian to understand the scriptures.  None of the wicked unconverted people will understand.  It is as Paul said in 1 Corinthians 2:14

 “The person without the spirit does not accept the things that come from the spirit of GOD (wisdom and understanding) but considers them foolishness and cannot understand them because they are spiritually discerned.”

This is the reason why the false churches of this world cannot understand and invent false teachings and beliefs totally contrary to the truth of GOD. Because they do not experience the spiritual connection to GOD they cannot believe that they are unconverted and children of the devil.  The whole unconverted world is under the sway of the wicked one.  1 John 5:19 

 The elect saints of GOD hear the words of wisdom and understanding from GOD and they belong to GOD and those who can’t hear do not belong to GOD. John 8:47   

Personification isn’t the only method scripture uses there is also prophetic present tense which is when the prophets, Jesus or the Apostles speak about things in the future, things that have not yet happened, as though they have. GOD speaks this way as Romans 4:17 shows us. “GOD calls those things that do not exist as though they do.”
