In this parable of Jesus the prodigal son represents the Gentiles and the other son is Israel. The loyal son kept working (in the law) for his father (GOD) while the younger (Gentiles) wanted his inheritance and squandered it on riotous living, (living outside the law) . This symbolizes Israel under the law while the Gentiles, while still under the law, did not not keep the law. When the prodigal son repented and saw himself not worthy of his fathers love he returned and the father had a celebration for him that made the other son jealous. This is how the Gentiles were called even though uncircumcised and law breakers, and were offered salvation symbolized by the celebration showing how the father recognized his son’s repentance while the other son became jealous and remained under the law thinking his carnal work in the law earned his father’s favor. The calling of the Gentiles provoked Israel to jealousy.
Romans 11:11 “I ask again, did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery ? GOD forbid but rather because of their fall salvation has come to the Gentiles to provoke jealousy in them.”
Israel operated on the assumption that GOD was pleased by their faithlessness and own carnal works in the law that wasn’t of faith and only generated self righteousness. The Gentiles that never worked in the law found grace because they were willing to repent and received GODS spirit and hope of salvation.
All humanity is born a prodigal son or daughter that needs to repent and realize that GOD extends HIS love and mercy upon all who will in faith believe.
The elect of GOD were once prodigal sons and daughters but now have been drawn close to GOD by the blood of HIS son, Jesus Christ. This is because in this current evil age most people, the vast majority of them, are deceived by the Devil to believe in the false ministers of this world. They follow men, not GOD and Christ. They yet remain prodigal sons and daughters and children of their father the Devil. All that the false churches of this world do for them is make them two fold more a child of the devil than they were before.
